OEM 93+ Shift Lever

Many people searching eBay have found an item listed as 'JDM short shift lever'. This is nothing more than a stock Toyota shift lever from the 93 and later MKII MR2. This shorter lever is a popular upgrade for the pre-93 cars and has been tested with success even on the MKI MR2 (where it provides a significantly different feel from stock).

This lever drops the height of your shift knob over an inch. The factory shift knobs supplied prior to 1993 will not work with this lever - we recommend one of our billet AL knobs if you purchase this item.

Above: 93+ lever on top, 91/92 lever on bottom
Below: Installed in a MKI MR2 with our RSe Delrin drop plate. 93+ on the left, OEM MKI (also with drop plate) on right. The lever alone provided a 1" drop in knob height.

Note: While this lever has been successfully used in MKI MR2s, some owners have reported problems getting into 5th and Reverse. We cannot guarantee fitment on all MKI MR2s.

What our customers say...

this was by far the best buy i made so far! Shifting became so much easier when coupled with the aluminum shift knob. add a drop plate and you got for a very nice look and feel. i recommend not just the lever but the kit. saves you time when you do it all at once

Purchased this as an upgrade to my 88 MK1, and it was perfect. I wanted the factory smooth shift feel with the shorter throw and look, and this delivered! High quality piece, excellent price, can't go wrong. Very happy!

All I have to say is "WOW!" I never realized what a difference that this shifter can make. I started with an OEM 91 shifter mated with a transmission that shifted great. I then upgraded to a B&M replica shifter that came with a drop plate and it made shifting rather notching. I used Redline MT90 to try and reduce the notchyness, but it did very little. Finally I decided to try out the 93+ shifter and I finally found the shift feel that I wanted! Very easy engagment to every gear, even to reverse! It feels as though shifting is effortless and has even seemed to reduced my shifting time between gears. I am NOT exaggerating! Definate Night & Day Difference!!! Highly Recommended!!! Vehicle Notes: -1991 MR2 NA -OEM 93+ Shift Knob -S54 Transmission w/ ~124,500mi -Trans Fliud: Redline MT90 (Although, I am going to try to use Redline 75W90 NS to better match my transmission)

my original plan was to install this shift lever, aluminum shifter base bushings, and brass shift shift cable bushings first. then add the rse drop plate later. i installed these three things today, and now im not so sure im going to add the drop plate. The shifter feels just the way i want it to. I wouldnt change a thing.

Made a world of difference! I went from a 91 to a B&M sport shifter to this 93' combined with the B&M drop plate and I love it. Definitly worth the $25.

I purchased the 93+ shift lever because I preferred the lowered look vs. the 90-92 shift lever. Installation was a breeze, and since it is OEM Toyota the quality is top notch. I was thoroughly surprised that my transmission shifts much nicer. after installing the 93+ lever. 2nd and 3rd gears engage much smoother now. All in all a very worthwhile upgrade.

I picked up a '91 NA a week ago. The first thing that hit me: good lord, that shifter is tall! Coming from a '93 Miata it was like driving a UPS truck. I bought the billet knob as well as the '93 lever. The difference is huge. The car feels properly sporty now. The nice things about the 93 lever: 1) It's shorter (duh) and 2) It has the little ring/hat that keeps the shift boot from falling down. I put the billet knob on the '91 shifter first and the boot went straight down, so that was a nice touch. I am very happy with the purchase, especially for $25!

Wow!! Such a difference from my 91 lever with the old "Bannana" style knob!! Makes me wonder why I waited so long to purchase one of these for my Mr2. This also makes me wonder why anyone would spend so much more money for the TRD shift lever?

It wasn't no 5 minute switch but that's because the previous owner had more dirt than what a gold mine worker can dig. Cleaned it and rubbed new multi-purpose grease. Took about a hour and change. The results where magnificent/awesome/recess perfect. Definitely a must for short shifting. Great product guys. I did use a TRD long shift knob on it. The one without the shifting pattern is the one that will work with it. Duct tapes a bit of the shifters base to give my knob more of a firmer feel.

great upgrade!!! i couldn't believe the difference in throw, not to mention the superior feel. coupled with the solid brass shifter cable bushings my shifting has improved 100 times over the old worn down banana style knob and lever. i recommend this to all pre 93 cars

Thanks twosrus..lightning fast shipping...I like this level much better..much shorter..shifting feels great. My only complain is its angled towards the passenger side..so it gets pushed much closer to the passeenger side and sometimes makes it hard to go in 5th or reverse if you have a thick shift boot. I dropped this in with the rSe plate and the jono 93 tab...shifting feels alot better..just sometimes I can't get into reverse.

Good: It is shorter It doesn't change the mount location for the shift linkage. (IE i don't think it Shortens the throw by much) Looks better Bad: Some say they had problems getting into 5th or R. I did not have these problems HOWEVER atm, if i don't hold the lever forward when i take off in first, it slips out. I think the JON-o tab will fix this. Also, i think my car has the drop plate. I noticed an aluminum plate so unless its stock, i guess the PO bought it. The stupid ring- they really should charge a dolar or 2 and remove it for people... I would recomend buying the whole kit so you get the best outcome!
