Very easy to install on an MK1. Just remove the battery look down and its there! (US version at least)
I found it a little bit of a pain to install, but not terrible. I did come at it from under the car on a lift. It seemed to make a difference, but I also installed the Solid Brass Shift Cable Bushings at the same time. With both done, there is a difference for sure. My original square was grooved from wear. I'd say change it along with the brass bushings for best results.
This is a must-have item for M/T cars. The result is very positive feel for gear selection along with removal of inappropriate slop. I would not hesitate to recommend this part to my friends.
Install was easy enough once the bracket was loosened away from the crossover however it did not fight tightly enough to be very effective. After a week the roller bearing fell off of the car. Upon closer inspection, the outer race had been peeled back from grinding on the crossover even though it was coated in transmission lube AND axle grease. I ended up fabricating a replacement from a running board spacer nut. I had to hone the i.d. to 3/8ths first, then 25/64ths to get a semi-snug fit on the post. It fit nicely inside the crossover after a gentle shave on the two contact sides of the hex and a generous dab of axle grease. I only recommend this bearing as a temporary fix as it lasted me less than two weeks.
