MKI MR2 Polyurethane Engine Mount Inserts

Product may vary slightly from image representation.
The engine in the MR2 is supported by 4 engine mounts. The transmission end and timing belt end mounts support the full weight of the drivetrain, while the front and rear mounts control the torque produced by the engine. With age, heat, and possibly a little more power than Toyota intended, these front and rear mounts deteriorate over time and allow the engine to move too much under acceleration and engine braking. A hard launch can lurch the engine back and forth violently, and reduce the amount of power actually transmitted to the ground.

The Speed-Source Polyurethane Engine Mount Kit is engineered to replace the stock rubber front and rear mounts with solid polyurethane. A steel insert keeps the poly mounts centered and locates the thru-bolt.

Included in the kit are 4 polyurethene bushings, 2 metal spools, and fully illustrated instructions. These mounts will fully replace the old rubber, not merely fill the holes in them. They are commercially formulated, vacuum-poured, and post-cured. The metal spools are zinc-dichromate plated for corrosion resistance and should give years of trouble free service. Red bushings are Shore 75A hardness formulation. While any urethane engine mount will increase the level of vibration felt in the cockpit, Speed Source found the Shore 75A mounts to give little objectionable increase on cars with stock mufflers.

This will Fit all MKI MR2 with the 4AGE or 4AGZE Engine.

What our customers say...

Huge difference!!! a bit stiff if you dont like the race car feel... love every minute of it! lots of vibration from the engine, if you dont like that race car feel, stick to stock!

more vibration, tightened up shifting and made it more precise. 2 mounts are covered by this item(front and rear), 2 inserts per mount.

Put these on my 86 mr2 and did a hundred mile test drive this morning. Cons; *In idle there is more vibration but its not that bad *You have to be on point with your clutch work. If you don't pick up the rpm's before you drop it you will feel every bit of your drive train shaking. I could see this getting really old if you drive in stop and go traffic allot. Pros; *Shifts are solid! *Engine braking at high rpm's is solid! *Much better feel while cornering. *Overall feel for the car is greatly improved. The suspension feels like its doing all the work now. Before I could feel the old rubber brushing allowing the drive train to slop around making the car unstable. I can hear my tires start to give in corners more clearly so I know when to back off. The engine sound much cleaner in high rpm's. If you like racing and your of the mindset that a little harshness in your ride is worth it for improved control I would recommend you order yours today. If you just like playing around a little time to time its probably mr2much for you!

Great buy, been using them in my MK2 since I converted to 3SGTE. Minor vibrations during idle and engine braking. Tighten up your interior! :P

I'll give this 5 stars because it does what it says it will do. Makes the engine stifer. I can defenately feel that throttle response is way better now. A little tab on the throttle and you can instantly feel the car moving. On the down side, there's lots of vibrations now. You can really feel the car shake when idling. When driving it's not noticably compared to the stock mount inserts. As others have said, if you don't like that race car feel theese are not for you. Optonally, some people have changed just the rear inserts to get half way there, less vibrations and still stiffer than stock. I'm going to try to mount a rubber sheet between the firewall and the mounting plate for the enginemount itself. I hope it will absorb the worst vibrations and still retain that race car "feel" and the throttle response.

this product is worth the money! no more broken axles! my right axle was clicking a little before i installed meaning it was about to go. but after i installed just the front bushing it stopped. once i put in the second it was super stiff. the vibration is noticable in the cabin but its not horrible. overall great product =]

The ease of installation with the written instructions was incredible. Less than half an hour. It took longer to get the car jacked up and on stands than the installation.

I love them. My engine was ready to leap out of the bay and now it is nice and solid. A bit more vibration at idle but much less vibration on takeoff and can't tell the difference once moving. A must have. My bolts were frozen and ended up having to get a shop to install them so keep that in mind (even after a lot of penetration fluid). Cool Rules Cartoon 2000GT Widebody MR2

WOW, THESE MOUNTS ARE INCREDIBLE! just finished installing them on my 87 and what a difference. now i already have done all the suspension , and i mean all of it, so the car handled great before the new mount install. I just cant get over the difference 2 engine/trans mounts can make. the best way i can describe it is , it feels like i just tightened up the whole back of the car up, it corners better and accelerates better too. before the car felt "edgy" at speeds over 100 now it feels rock solid. if your like me and drive your car hard these are an absoulte must, the best 84 bucks i have spent in a long time.

Fantastic, they really make the car feel tighter and more responsive, putting power down much more effectively. One of the first things you should upgrade.

My car used to make what felt like a "bucking" motion where it would surge then stall slightly at lower speeds if you let of the accelerator in 2nd or 3rd gear. After putting these on it barely does this anymore. I only had a vague idea the car's problem was the motor mounts, in fact I'd entertained the idea of it being buildup somewhere in the fuel lines and did a fuel filter and ran techron through it. I'm very pleased with this product, it's a great value and will probably help you out a lot if you were having problems similar to what I described. The only problem I encountered was getting the rubber/steel stock insert out of the rear motor mount. I sawed through it as per the Speed Source installation instructions but this was to no avail. After an hour of trying various methods of getting it out I decided to try machine shops around town... One quoted me at $85, another $27, each time saying they had "minimum charges" to apply regardless of duration of the work. FINALLY someone at an alignment shop that didn't even have a press managed to get it out by smacking it with an pneumatic hammer or something. They took $10 for it. Installation on the 5SFE is very easy, no dropping of the exhaust required, the rear mount just slides out and the the side a little. All in all, I've been very satisfied with all of Speed-source's products.

Very nice strong feel. More vibration at idle but thats expected. Makes shifting a lot easier because the motor doesn't torque a way from the shift linkages. Must buy if your skill running old wore out stock mounts.

This is a great product. In my case, they introduced a lot more resonance and vibration into the cabin at idle, but I started with very very worn stock bushings, and I also reinstalled the stock exhaust at the same time, so I'm not sure how that affected things. Driving with them is a treat, shifting is smoother, the jerkiness caused by my sticky throttle cable was reduced slightly, and the vibration at above idle RPMs is very comfortable and not droning or intrusive. Installation was very quick and simple, as described. I will be purchasing a 2nd set for my turbo. I recommend them if you think you can live with the additional vibration.

Installed these - was pretty easy besides getting the stock inserts out. Grab a flathead and a hammer and go for your life otherwise get a hacksaw, pull it apart, reverse the blade if you need to and put it back together with the blade in the gaps of the stock mount. Cut the inside steel ring. Then start working your way around with the flathead and bend the inner ring up and soak it in wd40. Should slide out with some manipulation. I noticed quite a large amount of vibration when idling (this is with both side mounts cracked) but once driving it feels normal. Shifting is crisper and can definitely tell the motor stays where it needs to. Quite amazing the difference these mounts make. There wasn't anything wrong with my stock ones, just the 2 sides are cracked.

I have owned my 85 AW11 for around 4 years and the mounts had splits in the rubber back then. If yours have splits, replace them now! I wish I had done this long ago. I ordered the inserts on Friday, got them Monday and installed them in around 4 hours. There was around an extra hour and a half install time because I didn't have a hack saw or a vice and had to beat the old rings out with a bunch of random tools and a lot of banging. If you have a shop, it will probably take around an hour or so. The replacement is easy, except for getting the old rings out of the motor mounts. And the instructions that come with it are fine but there's a video or two on youtube that shows you exactly what to do. Make sure you torque everything properly. After install, the first thing I noticed is how much more of a rumble I feel from the engine now. Starting actually feels pretty neat, more like a race car. You WILL feel much more vibrations at low RPM's and until the engine warms up. I love it! Driving is very much improved. Where before I could feel the engine jerking around back there on up and especially downshifting, now it's smooth as hell. The power transfer is much better. The only downside, and it's not a big one, is that anything that could rattle, will shake, rattle and roll. So get ready to go through the cabin and tighten up those loose trim pieces. This should be on top of your list of fixes for your car.

I think it's important for people to see exactly how bad your original motor mounts can get, even if they look like they're ok. -The through bolt guide was actually not attached and free floating on the rear mount. It slid right out with no pressure. http://imgur.com/4g74Q -Doesn't look too bad right? Just a little cut on one side of the front mount? http://imgur.com/BcNTg -Wrong! I pulled this out with no effort, the material was dried out like an old rubber band. http://imgur.com/2t0Rc -Looking a hell of a lot better prior to reinstall. http://imgur.com/ISvJX

Wow just put these on my SW20 and what a feeling! It helped in every way possible with shifting, acceleration, and throttle response. A must have for those 20 year old mounts!

A night and day improvement over the stock mounts. No more worries launching my car at WOT....a must have for any MR2 owner with stock mounts, planning on adding power or having their engine pulled. The kit adds some interior vibration but makes you feel like you're in a race car. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I can confirm that the 5SFE mounts suit 3SGE just fine. As they should, they use the same mounts.

Great improvement over stock, when first installed created a lot of vibration into the cab but got better after a few good hard launches

I can finally really let the mr2 go on the drag strip without feeling like the blocks going to jump up and slap me in the back of the head. Excellent!

I recently installed these into a '93 JDM T. Vibration inside the cabin increased significantly (I've got at least 2 more "buzzes" that weren't there before), but these mounts have significantly improved throttle transitions - the car moves around quite a bit less.

I just installed these on my '86 n/a AW11, and they're incredible! They certainly do make the car vibrate more, but I really like to be able to feel the motor through the car. These things REALLY do the job! My motor doesn't move at all anymore. If you're needing new motor mounts, this is the was to go! And much cheaper than anything stock I could find! What a great price!

Fit nice only hard part is taking the old ones out, nice and stiff just how I like my mounts.

This product is pretty good. It fits replaces the orginal engine mounts and fits without much hassle. Been using it with a turbocharged MR2 AW11 and the mounts are indestructable. The orginal one only lasts for 1 month with hard driving. However, there WILL be vibrations on idle and engin brake. Overall, its a great product. CHEERS

Just installed not 10 minutes ago. The instructions could have been a bit more detailed, but if you're doing this, you should have at least some mechanical expertise. Removing the mounts from the car was not difficult, Removing the bushings from the mounts was the time consuming part, and would have been made so much easier with a press, or some special fittings pieces in my vice. I found that the interior does rattle and it sounds like I have a new exhaust of some kind, but only at about 1000 & 1200 RPM, and after that I have the performance that I was expecting, no more movement and shuddering from the engine and transmission during hard shifting, or from a first gear start. I enjoy these, But they do seem to be a little hard. I hope they wear in slightly.

For a track-driven car these mounts became a necessity. My stock mounts had loosened up enough that coming around T1 at VIR and trying to snatch 3rd gear under hard acceleration became impossible--I was having to lift to shift at that point. These mounts solved the problem! That being said, they do vibrate something fierce at idle, but their on-track behavior is enough to offset this inconvenience.

93 NA 5SFE - Super stiff! I don't really like them, rather uncomfortable. Would recommend these for a track, not for the road though. Perhaps it's better with the 3SGTE.

Rated by Adrian MacGeraghty

Product quality is great: I've put over 60,000 km and 4 yeras on these mounts. However the vibration transmitted to cockpit became just way too much. Everything in the car would rattle - the hood and headlights vibrated visibly. I've since gone back to OEM rubber mounts - Much nicer. Shifting is improved over the poly mounts. Much more forgiving. In summary - Great quality product. But for a daily driven car - massively overkill and no noticable improvement in shifting compared to OEM rubber in my opinion to justify it.

Rated by Corey Darling

I mounted those mounts last summer. The vibrations became unbearable, but I may have noticed slight improvements of the shifting. I will be replacing those mounts ASAP. However, if you are racing, or don't mind the rattling of your interior, go for it!
