The kit is manufactured by Prothane and was originally distributed exclusively by High & Tight Motorsports. Urethane suspension bushings are considered by many people to be the best upgrade you can do for your car's handling.

WILL I LOSE RIDE QUALITY? The original rubber bushing was fairly soft, which helped attenuate noise and vibration that is generated by the tires and road surface. Increasing the hardness of the bushings either with harder rubber, urethane, or even bronze will allow more transmission of noise and vibrations. Some manufacturers formulate the hardness and design to reduce this effect. A softer urethane bushing allows the vehicle to perform better without the harshness, even over rubber components of the same hardness. The only change in ride quality is increased performance. This is why the Prothane total kit is a better choice than TRD bushings.
WHY USE URETHANE? Factory supplied rubber components are on the soft side to accommodate the typical car buyer. They tend to deteriorate very rapidly and, since the MK2 is now in it's 15th year, the OEM rubber bushings have long since lost their effectiveness. Most MK2's now suffer from "spongy" and less than ideal handling. Urethane will correct these conditions while improving drivability and ride quality.
DOES URETHANE SQUEAK? In a word, NO! Squeaking is caused by high frequency vibrations that can be heard rather than felt. It is usually caused by lack of lubrication, poor installation, incorrect part, or urethane that may be too hard for the application. In sway bar mount applications, most squeaking is the result of not cleaning the bar thoroughly prior to installation and failing to use the supplied "squeak proof" Super Grease. Additionally, the MR2 bushings were manufactured with grooves and channels to hold the Super Grease to provide long-lasting performance.

If you?ve added aftermarket springs and struts, but still rely on OEM rubber bushings, you have not yet realized the full potential of your upgraded suspension components. Normally, the addition of urethane bushings improved handling but compromised ride quality. This is not the case with the HT urethane bushing kit. In fact, you?ll be pleasantly surprised to find that we?ve actually been able to achieve the elusive delicate balance of go-kart handling without the bone jarring ride commonly associated with urethane bushings. This is because urethane bushings allow your strut dampers to absorb the shock normally absorbed by your old rubber bushings.

The result is a firmer, sportier suspension, without compromising ride quality

MKII Kit Includes:

1. Front and rear control arm bushings
2. Front and rear strut bar bushings.
3. Front and rear anti-sway bar bushings
4. Rear strut bar control arm to chassis bushings

Note: Toyota offered as many as 7 different diameter front sway bars for the 91/92 MR2. 19mm bushings will fit most 93+ sway bars. Please measure your sway bars and pick the appropriate size bushings from the drop down menu below. These bushings include new sway bar brackets and spacers to place them the proper distance from the chassis; 93+ 19mm bushings fit into the factory 93+ brackets.

Measure your rear sway bar also! Most cars have 19mm, but some do not. If you do not have a 19mm rear bushing, indicate the size in the comments of your order and we will ship proper size replacement generic bushings that fit the stock brackets and hold the bar.

What our customers say...

Total pain to install. Took 10hours or so (I am slow) and the directions are very poor. "Take out old bushing, grease new bushing, install". Buy 2 extra sets of grease with these (6 total). Awesome to have. Car handles great and I use it at the track. Did not notice any more vibrations, but better cornering abilities one hard turns. Normal street use probably will not yield anything noticeable, but spirited or AutoX driving will.

Great kit, but poor instructions. I installed the kit over 4 days (30 hours), with medium skills, basic toolbox, cutting disc and an acetylene torch. Do note that I sandblasted and painted every reusable part, if not I'd be done in under 15 hours. I recommend searching up the write-up from mr2 knowledge base, I also urge everyone to order a extra 3-pack of supergrease. The brackets for the rear sway bar may need changing, so consider ordering those with bolts and ball joints for every corner if they are old. Lastly, use lots of penetrating fluids all over every bolt/washer that has to come off, and leave them soaked for a night or so. All washers in the kit must be used. As for the ride, all notchy feelings/body roll is gone. Top kit!

Took the advice of a few others and had this kit installed by professionals. My deuce had 330,000 miles on it all on factory original suspension components. After installing these bushings it was a complete night and day difference in how my car handled. "Solid as a rock" is the best way I can describe how she handles now. A definite buy for those looking to upgrade their bushings for street or track use.

The install was a pain. I'd recommend have a wheel/tire/alignment shop, or other specialist to do the install. However, this kit is a must have for anyone upgrading their suspension...completely eliminated all squeaking, improved overall handling and even rides better on the highway.

Wasn't as bad as most people made it out to be. Took me and a friend about 5 hours from the time i jacked it up to pulling it out of the garage. The bushings came in 2 seperate boxes. 1 for the front and 1 for the back. Each box had a piece of paper labeling which bushing went in which control arm. All you have to do is match the number on the bushing to the paper so you know where it goes. Getting the factory bushings out of the rear trailing arms were the hardest. Used a 36mm socket as a cup while using a 14mm socket on top to push all the bushings out with a press. Then just use a bench vise to press the new bushings in. I also had more than enough grease for the new bushings.

I installed the bushing kit on my 1991 MR2. I was a bit skeptical of performance gains during the installation but I was very pleased after I did my test run afterwards. My car no longer drifted around on the road and the car finally tracked straight when I went into boost. The car no longer had a loose feel that I had become accustomed to over the 18 years I have owned my car. Fortunately I had a small hydraulic press which made removal of the old bushings a breeze. I recommend an alignment afterwards since you will not be able to save the original settings. I recommend this bushing upgrade kit!

Excellent suspension upgrade which should be on every car. Having a 98 3sgte with 86km my bushes were not very worn but thought I'd do this installation as I take the car to the track and strip occasionally. Very impressed with outcome and car feels like it is attached to the road. Kit is not an easy install and its a must to either get old bushes pressed out or physically burn them out. Directions are not very good and numbers do not match up with bushes. Had to measure and check each bush to make sure it was correct along with the right sleave. If you try to only front or back and get some bushes mixed up you will be re-doing later on. Washers do not always fit and have to be adapted unless you re-use some of the old ones. As a "total complete kit" it should include the sway bar bushes but these need to be ordered seperately. No directions for these and if you thought it was straight forward you would be wrong. Fronts are easy but rears require cross member to be dropped in order to access inner bolt. Far from an easy task and I'd expect 10hr install to be average. jim

The Total Kit is not "total" if you have an early MR2 with a rubber bushing on the rear tie rods. I'm still trying to sort a recovery plan before paying to replace the tie rod with an inboard bearing. I understand the bearing solution is a much better method of controlling toe in/out dynamics than a bushing made from any elastomer.

Quality is good. Instructions are TERRIBLE. Took me and a friend 8 hours to install. We are both aviation mechanics and had a lift, impact set with air gun, and bushing removal kit. Spent at least 3 hours just figuring out what went where. Don't know what others are talking about in regards to too little grease supplied. We had plenty. Immediately fixed my groaning noise coming from passenger rear. Once you figure out what goes where, it's really easy. As far as post install, I can tell a difference, car inspires more confidence and feels solid. Ride quality is the same or surprisingly better. Did I mention the instructions are TERRIBLE. Be warned. -Jared
