With each issue we embark on, we sit down, scratch our heads, blank pages like a clean canvas, wondering what are we going to put together for this issue, but you guys just keep coming up trumps each time. Considering we are a one marque niche publication, the quality MR2s just keep lining up issue after issue, never ceasing to amaze.
It soon became apparent as Issue 22 was unfolding that it promised to be something of an SW20 Turbo special, with not one special SW20, not two, but five, yes five SW20 Turbos all pushing out impressive power, and each and every one a testament to the owner?s vision and hard work, and a tale to tell. Firstly there?s a Greddy treat with our main cover car owned by Ian Linberg, certainly an MR2 to inspire. Jim?s 400bhp 98? rev 5 boasting many rare Phoenix Power goodies. Continuing our turbo treat is Sean Driscoll?s ?94 Super Red Turbo standing out from the crowd; so much so that it won this year?s Spring Fling best of show.
Equally impressive is Tim Gregg?s 420bhp revision 1 beast, and last but not least something a little different from Evan Chouest with tales of his 17 years of MR2 ownership.
A trip back to the 80?s but with a modern day raucous twist, we?ve a 3VZ-FE V6 Mk1 owned by Mk1 Owners Club?s Richard Brett, which by all accounts is an absolute scream to drive. Lastly the Funky Power guys show us how it?s done with their latest MR2 Roadster demo car.
In the midst of the summer show season, in this issue there are reports from over the pond, Toyotafest and Spring Fling, two great events which we?d love to fly over and attend one day, but for now thanks to all the guys that contributed photos and written reports. Back on home soil MR2 Only and our new sister title Toyota Performance Magazine set up stall in the trade area at the recent Japshow, Santa Pod, and we were absolutely bowled over at the interest we received for MR2 Only Mag, with back issues flying off our shelves, lots of MR2 owners not even having heard there was a magazine out there purely for MR2s.
As we embark on our 5th year of publishing MR2 Only we urge you to give us your feedback, visit our new website and submit your MR2 for a feature, write in or email me with your views, stories, letters, reports, or even grab one of us at any of this year?s shows we?re attending for a chat.
